Two-day Nyungwe Canopy, Nyanza Royal Palace and Chimps Adventure

With our local and friendly tour guide, you'll be transported in a vehicle with WIFI onboard for connection with your loved ones and the world. All along, you'll enjoy the revitalising scenery of our Country of a Thousand Hills.

Day 1: Nyanza King's Palace Museum and Nyungwe Canopy

Take an early breakfast to leave Kigali by 06h00 and drive for estimated 3.5 hours to reach Nyanza King's Palace Museum, the King’s Mutara III Rudahigwa’s Palace. It offers a detailed look into the Rwandan monarchical system and its abolition in early 1960s due to colonialism.

 

Afternoon: Reach the canopy walk's Uwinka Visitor's Centre, register for the 15h00 canopy and before heading for the canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park, approx. 1.5 hours. From the canopy, get the chimps guide assigned and head to Rusizi town, accommodation check-in and dinner in the evening.

Day 2: Chimps trekking

04h00: Hotel check-out, leave to be at Gisakura reception centre (or other pre-determined meeting point) 05h00 for briefing and departure for the chimpanzees. 

Head back to Kigali: Returning back from the chimps, you will have lunch and then head back to Kigali through Karongi and Rubengera towns to arrive in Kigali 20h30 approx.​

A good way to spend your time in the Western Rwanda. Experience the rain forest on a canopy walkway hanging 60 meters above forest floor, with a superb view of the park's nature. Also, spend time experiencing the chimpanzees in Nyungwe National Park.

What to wear:

• Insect repellent recommended for both the canopy and the chimps.

• Raincoats (coats, pants), both for the canopy and for the chimps.
• Hiking shoes, mud-resistant for both the canopy and the chimps 
A sweater or jacket (this may be necessary during the rainy, cold weather)

Last saturdays of a month: Umuganda community work nationwide. Expect some stops along the way.
